Krakow International Airport
About our airport...
The airport is located just 11 kilometers from the city center and is connected to the main railway station in Krakow (journey time: 15 min).
The beginnings of civil aviation at Krakow Airport date back to 1964 when the military authorities assigned 10 ha of its area for future civil aviation purposes and granted the civil operator all permits required for the use of airport facilities. On 29th February 1964 the first scheduled PLL LOT aircraft landed in Balice.
The airport covers a total area of 310 ha, including 27.5 ha managed by John Paul II Krakow-Balice International Airport Ltd. The civil-military airport has one concrete runway, with a length of 2550 meters and a width of 60 m.
In 2016, was finished implementation of the largest investment and modernization program in the history of the airport. Was generated new: terminal, hotel, train station with modernized railway line to the airport, parking apron for aircraft, the internal land transportation system and a taxiway. Kraków Airport plans to invest around PLN 1 billion into infrastructure development within the next 20 years. Passenger traffic predictions indicate that Kraków Airport will handle as many as 12 million passengers in 2036. This means that Kraków Airport has to extend the passenger terminal and apron as well as find a new location for the cargo terminal. The construction of a new runway is the key element of the investment plan until 2036.
In 2017 Kraków Airport handled more than 5.8 million passengers, including the Germany national under-21 football team that won the 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, delegates to the 41st Session of the World Heritage Committee and the Polish National Ski Jumping Team. In summer 2018, Kraków Airport offers more than 100 connections in regular and charter traffic.

Kraków Airport football team was founded in 1997. In the history the team was five times champion of Polish Airports in Futsal in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2017 (currently). Kraków Airport debuted on EAFC in Malta 2012. In 2014 the airport was hosting 14 airports from Europe in tournament in Kraków where host airport achieved title of European Airports Football Champion. During EAFC in Malta and Vienna they reached to the semi-finals. Casual employees-footballers pursue their football passions playing in amateur teams in their places of residence.
